Race Tech now offers a Port and Polishing process for the stock exhaust manifold on transverse and longitudinally mounted 1.8T's.  They have developed a process that significantly opens up both the entrance ports and exit port of the manifold allowing for much greater flow and heat reduction.  The entrance ports and exit port have been matched to the gaskets (head and turbo) enlarging each port by approximately a 3/8" in overall diameter. The enlarged ports are perfectly transitioned into each ported runner. The internal runners are then polished removing any imperfections in the casting  as well as providing a natural barrier that helps prevent the manifold from absorbing heat.  Preventing the manifold from absorbing heat helps lower EGT's while promoting boost spool up by allowing all of the exhaust energy to be transferred to the turbo.
